Promoting your shows
All shows will feature in our brochures and also on the main Leicester Comedy Festival and/or The UK Kids' Comedy Festival websites.
In addition to that, it is important that you think of other ways to actively promote your shows and give them some additional visibility within the festival. Here are some suggestions for things you can do:
You must use the Leicester Comedy Festival/The UK Kids' Comedy Festival logo on all promotional material that you produce; this includes posters and flyers but also digital stuff like websites. The logo is available for download in a variety of colours. Please make sure you read the Usage Guidelines first.
Social media is a free and popular way to promote your show. There are a lot of platforms to use such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram TikTik, etc. Each platform has a different style and features, and it is important to consider this when using multiple platforms. You can tag us on each of these to increase the reach of your posts: @LeicsComedyFest and @KidsComedyFest
DO NOT ASK OR EXPECT THE FESTIVAL PAGE TO RETWEET OR SHARE ABOUT YOUR SHOW. DUE TO THE NUMBER OF EVENTS, WE CAN'T PROMOTE ANY SPECIFIC SHOWS OVER ANOTHER ONE.
Our general rule of thumb is that we will:
- Retweet posts that we are tagged in on Twitter
- Reshare posts & stories we are tagged in on Instagram
- Reshare posts that we are tagged in in our Facebook stories
You can buy some advertising space on the Festival website and Festival brochures. For more information, get in touch by emailing email@example.com for our rate card.
We recommend you create posters for your festival shows and send them directly to your venue or promoter. They will be able to put them around the city and start to generate interest in your show. Make sure you have a conversation with your venue or promoter about this when you first get in touch - it's important you both understand each other's expectations.
Flyers are typically a tool that people use to promote their shows however over the past few years we are finding that they have become less effective and the majority of them end being put in the recycling! We suggest doing your bit to save the environment and not printing flyers. It's worth noting that the opportunities for street distribution in Leicester is not like Edinburgh; whilst loads of people visit festival shows, there are not loads of people hanging around on the street/in street cafes/bars waiting to go and see shows.
Of course, you may disagree and we do provide wristbands to all acts and promoters which act as street flyering licenses which enable you to flyer in the city centre. It is essential that you wear these if you plan to flyer otherwise you could be personally liable for a £1,000 fine.
Do not send posters or flyers to the Big Difference Company office. We can not take posters out and will recycle them.
