Promoting your shows
All shows will feature in the online brochure and also on the main Leicester Comedy Festival website which has over 30,000 hits in the months leading up to the festival. However, it is important that you think of other ways to actively promote your shows and give them some additional visibility within the festival. Have a quick look at some suggestions below.
We are also putting together a Marketing Guide that will be available to download a few weeks after the show registration.
You must use the Leicester Comedy Festival logo on all promotional material that you produce; this includes posters/flyers but also digital stuff like websites. The logo is available for download in a variety of colours here. Please make sure you read the Usage Guidelines first.
Social media is a free and popular way to promote your show. There are a lot of platforms to use such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Each platform has a different style and features, and it is important to consider this when using multiple platforms. You can tag us on each of these to increase the reach of your posts: @LeicsComedyFest
DO NOT ASK OR EXPECT THE FESTIVAL PAGE TO RETWEET OR SHARE ABOUT YOUR SHOW. DUE TO THE NUMBER OF EVENTS, WE CAN'T PROMOTE ANY SPECIFIC SHOWS OVER ANOTHER ONE.
You can buy some advertising space on the Festival website and Festival brochures. For more information, get in touch.
We recommend you create posters for your festival shows and send them directly to your venue or promoter. They will be able to put them around the city and start to generate interest in your show. Make sure you have a conversation with your venue or promoter about this when you first get in touch - it's important you both understand each other's expectations. You can also benefit from having some of your print distributed by our street teams; you need to do your “core” distribution yourself but we can help with distribution during the festival.
Flyers are another important tool that help generate a buzz about your show. You can distribute them around local shops and venues as well as getting out and about and flyering audiences on the street and outside other festival venues. We will provide you with wristbands that act as your flyering licence from late-January. You must wear these when flyering in Leicester City Centre - you will be personally liable for the £1000 should you get caught without your licence! It's probably worth noting that the opportunities for street distribution in Leicester is not like Edinburgh; whilst loads of people visit festival shows, there are not loads of people hanging around on the street/in street cafes/bars waiting to go and see shows. So don't print thousands of flyers to give out on the street. In is definitely worth printing some to take to cafes/bars/venues but you won't need flyers to do street distribution.
DO NOT SEND POSTERS OR FLYERS DIRECTLY TO THE FESTIVAL OFFICE. WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING WITH THEM AND THEY WILL BE RECYCLED. SEND THEM TO YOUR PROMOTER AND VENUE.
